My passion for photography dates back as far as I can remember. From the 110 cameras (shaped like long thin boxes) to the disk camera (feel free to ask about it for it wasn’t around long) and onto my first 35mm I have been in love with the ability to capture the life around me. In 2005 I purchased my first digital SLR camera. I had been reluctant to leave my 35mm camera especially since our family digital camera was very slow, but when I held that Nikon D70 in my hands, I knew it was meant to be.
There was a learning curve as there is with any new technology so I took some classes at our local community college. I learned the basics but I wanted so much more and they couldn’t offer what I needed. Armed with a small portfolio and the love and support of my wonderful husband, I headed off to the Art Institute of Colorado. Here I graduated in 2008 Magnum Cum Lade with an Associates of Applied Science in Photography. This was a huge accomplishment for both my family and me since I was holding down a full time job and raising 3 kids with my husband.
My education has not stopped there. In 2009 I attended a workshop in Atlanta, GA with 2 of the world’s top wedding photographers, Denis Reggie and Joe Bussink. I chose to spend this time with them for their styles are very similar to the way I shoot, unobtrusive and respectfully. I also belong to several professional organizations including Professional Photographers of America (PPA), Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI), and Austin Professional Photographers Association as Competition Director. In 2020 I stepped into the role of President of Austin Professional Photographers and in 2018 I completed my Certification through Professional Photographers of America.
